Caythorpe Gala flashes back to 1940s and 1950s as part of Arnhem weekend celebrations
Residents have combined their village gala with the annual homage to a second world battle.
Caythorpe (Lincs) marks the Battle of Arnhem every year because some of the troops who took part — the 216 Signals Regiment — were billeted in the village.
On Saturday and Sunday, Caythorpe paid homage to the 1944 battle, which was fought in The Netherlands.
Caythorpe Gala took place on the Saturday, where visitors enjoyed music by Kelly Ann, a 1940s and 1950s fancy dress competition, a dog show and much more.
Laura Leeds, one of the organisers behind the event expressed her thanks on the gala's Facebook page, saying: "A great big thank you to everyone who helped at the gala. It really is a mammoth task but we did it again and we basked in sunshine!"
Not only was there music and a fancy dress competition to enjoy, but the public also got to watch a Hurricane plane fly by.
Caythorpe Crufts took place for the first time, and there was a variety of games that took place across the day that everyone could get involved in such as tug of war and a welly wanging competition.
Other attractions included inflatables, a raffle, social club bars and also a Red Lion Pimms Bar.
Visitors were not limited with their choice for food either as there was over 30 stalls selling food and drink, alongside a barbecue, and also tea and cake being served.
In her Facebook post, Laura thanked sponsors and local businesses for their involvement in the event.
She added: "We’ll be back again in 2023! Please let us know if you’d like to be involved.
"If it’s running a stall, helping for an hour, selling raffle tickets, putting up road signs, postering, we’ve got something for everyone I’m sure!"
