GALLERY: Fright Night fun run raises much-needed funds for Beaumond House Community Hospice
There was lots of spookily good fun last night as ghosts and ghouls took part in a 5k Fright Night run in aid of Beaumond House Community Hospice.
The course was two laps around Newark Showground.
Despite the cold, runners, young and old, many of whom were families, were in the best of spirits.
Kathy Horsfall, of Southwell, and Elaine Smith, from Yorkshire, who met while on holiday in the Maldives in 2007 and stayed in touch when they got home were two to take part.
They raised £700.
"We're not runners," said Kathy.
"We'll do it but slowly.
"We did have a practice at the parkrun last Saturday and we didn't finish last, which was a triumph."
A team from Brownhills Motor Homes were taking part for the first time.
"We'll do it again, but perhaps not in pumpkin suits," said one of them.
The Lord Nelson at Besthorpe was sponsored by customers to take part.
Addressing those taking part before the warm-up, Cathy Lowe, the hospice’s fundraising and marketing manager said: “We need to raise £650,000 a year to carry on what we do, and that's in addition to the money received from the clinical commissioning group.
"Basically we require £1m a year, and we couldn't do it without people like you.
"We need to raise money to carry on supporting people through their most difficult of times."
