GCSEs 2024: Nottinghamshire pupils celebrate GCSE success, with results from schools in Newark, Southwell, Ollerton, Bingham, Tuxford and more





Sleepless nights for GCSE pupils across Nottinghamshire will finally come to an end today (Thursday, August 22) as they receive their results.

The Advertiser will be sharing results from schools in Newark, Southwell, Ollerton, Bingham, Tuxford and other areas as we have them.

Nottinghamshire County Council has congratulated the county’s GCSE pupils on their results, as well as offering advice on next steps.

Sam Smith, cabinet member for education and SEND, said: “I’d like to offer my congratulations to students in Nottinghamshire on their GCSE results today.

“The achievements on days like this are the result of lots of hard work and commitment from students, and they should be very proud of themselves.

“Whatever the results might be, there is still plenty of help available to help students progress with their learning or enter the world of work.

“Young people in Nottinghamshire have a variety of opportunities available to them when it comes to making decisions about their futures.

“I wish all of the students well with wherever their next steps might take them.”

For those young people receiving GCSE results today, the National Careers Service Exam Results Helpline is available by calling 0800 100 900.

In addition to this, the Careers Service brings together all the education and training choices available to young people after their GCSEs, including technical education routes like apprenticeships, traineeships, T-levels and HTQs.

At Magnus Church of England Academy, pupils were celebrating exam success, with many achieving top grades of 7s, 8s and 9s.

Principle Anna Martin said: “A huge well done to our students, who despite suffering significant disruption to their learning during the first few years because of the pandemic, have worked so hard to achieve strong GCSE results.”

Many of the students plan to continue their education at the school’s sixth form.

The Minster School, Southwell, is celebrating another year of ‘exceptional’ GCSE results, with 80% of pupils achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths.

Head Ben Chaloner said: “I am incredibly proud of our students for their outstanding performance in this year’s GCSE exams. Their dedication and resilience have truly paid off.”

At Suthers School, Fernwood, pupils have celebrated their achievements and are now looking forward to a bright future.

Head Nic Watkin said: “I am very proud of every single student and what they have achieved.

“These results reflect their tenacity, optimism and hard work demonstrated in lessons and during home learning.

“We are pleased our students will be able to continue their education on their chosen pathway.”

At Sir William Robertson Academy in Welbourn, many pupils were awarded the highest grades across a wide range of subjects.

Mark Guest, headteacher, said: “We are immensely proud of all our pupils.

“These results are a fitting testament to pupils’ hard work, commitment and the excellent teaching they have received throughout their time at Sir William Robertson.

“I am delighted that we are welcoming so many of this year group back into our sixth form – great things lay ahead for them.”

The GCSE results continued to improve for the third year in a row at The Dukeries Academy, Ollerton.

Principal, Mike Brett said: “We are very proud of our Year 11 pupils who have raised the bar once again.

“They have worked exceptionally hard alongside our dedicated staff to achieve our best results since 2019.

“Most of all, we thank our supportive families who have worked hard with us and with their children to make improvements our whole community can be proud of.”

Students at Newark Academy have surprised themselves after securing a host of top GCSE results — with one individual even achieving a school first by securing top marks across all of her subjects.

After five years of secondary school education, there were plenty of smiles as the young students breathed a sigh of relief and celebrated before taking their next steps into sixth form or college.

The Nova Education Trust which runs Newark Academy has not released pass rates, but school leaders said high results reflected the school’s motto of “Work hard - Be kind.”

At Tuxford Academy students celebrated years of hard work as they eagerly collected their GCSE results.

Many students were overcome with joy as they opened their results, enabling them to pursue A-levels at Tuxford or to follow their chosen pathways into college or apprenticeships.

Over 80% of pupils at Toot Hill School in Bingham achieved a grade 4 or higher in both GCSE English and maths, and over 65% securing a grade 5 or higher.

Furthermore, thirteen of the students secured an incredible seven or more GCSEs at grade 9.

South Nottinghamshire Academy, Radcliffe on Trent, are pleased to celebrate the achievements of their Year 11 students.

The great GCSE results are said to be thanks to the ‘outstanding work and commitment’ of pupils.
