General Election 2019: Count results for the Newark and Bingham constituency revealed

The Conservative candidate for Newark Robert Jenrick has retained his seat with 34,660 votes, more than in 2017.

Mr Jenrick was fighting the seat for the third time since being elected in a by-election in 2014.

He is Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Communities Secretary.

Mr Jenrick was the last candidate to arrive at the Newark Sports and Fitness Centre for the count at around 2.30am.

He greeted supporters and spent time with them and his wife.

In 2017, he received 34,493 votes, 62.7% of those cast, which was a 5.6% increase on 2014.

Mr Jenrick was the only candidate not to give interviews before the result was declared.
