Precious gifts and car were stolen during a burglary just five days before Christmas.

Officers are appealing for information after the car and Christmas presents were taken during a burglary in Worthington Road, Newark.

Nottinghamshire Police were called at around 8.35pm on Sunday, December 20, after the homeowners returned to find their patio doors smashed and their house broken into.

Detective Constable Andrew Brownless, who is investigating the incident, said: "This is an awful thing to have happened, especially just before Christmas.

"We believe the burglary happened between 4pm and 6.30pm and we urge anyone who saw the incident or has any information to get in touch as soon as possible.

"We would reassure the community that reports such as these will be investigated thoroughly, our enquiries are ongoing and we are working hard to identify those responsible.

"Anyone who saw the incident or has any information, is asked to please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 599 of December 20."
