Newark Golf Club to partner with Children's Bereavement Centre, Newark

Newark Golf Club has chosen the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Newark, as its charity of the year, writes Benjamin Lynch.

The club will partner with the centre, which is the only charity providing specialist bereavement services for young people in Newark.

Golf club captain Keith Whitfield was responsible for choosing the club’s annual charity.

“The dedication and commitment of both centre staff and their amazing volunteers enables the charity to make a real difference to many children, their parents and carers at a very difficult time,” he said.

“I hope that by working closely together, the golf club and the Children’s Bereavement Centre can raise awareness of the work of the centre, while also raising funds to support the charity.”

The centre is a Newark-based registered charity that provides early intervention support for children and young people who are experiencing life-changing trauma due to the death or terminal-illness of a loved one across Nottinghamshire.

Kate Baxter, chief executive of the centre, said: “One of our aims is to ensure the children and young people we support go on to reach their full potential through improving their emotional well-being and mental health.

“Playing golf and being in natural settings has been shown to enhance cognitive, attentional, emotional and spiritual well-being, so this is a great fit for us both.

“As a local charity that provides essential support to children and families within the local community, it’s very fitting that we are being supported by a club that has been at the heart of the local community for more than one hundred years.”
