Golfers on par for challenge
Four friends took part in a marathon of golf for a second time to raise money for charity.
Mr Ben Gadsby, Mr Richard Bramley, and Mr Tom Atkin, from Gadsby’s Bakery, Southwell, and Mr Dean Clements, of Amicus Pest Control, played four rounds of golf — or 72 holes — at Norwood Park Golf Centre on Tuesday.
It was part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day Golf Challenge.
They teed off at 4.45am and completed the challenge at 8.40pm after walking 26 miles and hitting more than 300 shots each.
Mr Gadsby said the challenge was made more difficult by the warm, sunny conditions.
He said: “We got round but it was very difficult because of the weather. Apart from that, it was enjoyable and the golf was reasonable but the main thing is the money we raised.”
Mr Gadsby said they raised about £500 last year and this year expected to raise about £600.
He said: “It is something we enjoy doing and it is raising money for a fantastic cause so what is a bit of pain for one day to help people who are going through much worse?”
Mr Gadsby thanked staff at the golf course for their help with the challenge.
