Owner of Newark’s fitness business Gorilla Man Fitness received grant from Newark Youth Trust
A Newark fitness enthusiast has received a £940 grant that will allow him to run bigger fitness classes in the community.
Adam Savage, the owner of Gorilla Man Fitness, runs inclusive fitness sessions under his not-for-profit Community Interest Company to promote physical and mental health across the area.
He has been awarded £940 from Newark Youth Trust, which he used to buy new boxing equipment to be used in the community.
Prior to receiving the grant, Adam only had two sets of boxing gloves and one set of sparring pads, which limited the number of children he could train at once, and the new set will allow him to train more children in classes.
Adam said: “I am blown away by the support from Newark Youth Trust, which has allowed me to support more of Newark’s youth.
“I am a big believer in if you work hard at something, you will get results.”
When Adam was just 11 years old, a car hit him at 90mph while he was riding his bike, leaving him in a coma for six weeks, and his parents were told to expect the worst.
When he woke from his coma, he had to relearn everything and was told by the doctors that he would not walk again.
After a year in a wheelchair, he defied all the odds and managed to not only walk again, but he became a personal trainer to help others achieve their goals.
The Newark Youth Trust is a registered charity that provides grants or loans to charitable organisations in Newark, especially those dedicated to supporting young people.
Adam said that he has received ‘great feedback’ following a community fitness session at Normanby Hall for a family fun day.
On July 30, Adam will be at the Yorke Drive Family Fun Day, running children-focused warm-up sessions and community boxing sessions.
Adam runs several community classes dedicated to all age groups, as he is passionate about the benefits that sport has in people’s lives and the importance of being active.
Adam is currently operating fitness classes in Newark, West Bridgeford, and Collingham, and has recently added a session in South Hykeham.
