Newark Area Arts and Leisure Foundation awards grants





Newark Area Arts and Leisure Foundation is encouraging new initiatives with the latest grants it has given out.

The charity aims to assist individuals and groups in a wide variety of arts and leisure-based activities.

The Balderton Art Group, mainly composed of watercolour artists, received a grant of £150.

They are keen to develop their skills using different materials on the artist market.

They will use the money awarded to provide specific workshops.

STUDIO29 Performing Arts Academy received a £500 grant to host a three-day free workshop.

The workshop would provide experience in subjects such as singing, dancing, acting, storytelling and a host of other activities in three sections.

It would be suitable for children aged from three to 12 years old.

The foundation has also made a grant of £300 to Adam Schofield who has formed Riverside Music.

The school has the ambition to teach guitar and ukulele lessons both face-to-face and online with special appeals to both retired and younger people.

Contemporary art Newark CIC was awarded £225 to set up a free-entry public art gallery by the riverside in town.

The gallery plans six to eight shows a year exhibiting well known artists and offering lifelong learning and volunteering opportunities.

The foundation has continued to support the Newark Book Festival, which is one of the town’s outstanding annual events.

This year the book festival was awarded £300. It will take place from July 6 to 9.
