Newark and Sherwood Green party is raising funds to support General Election campaign

Green Party campaigners are appealing for funds to help them to be able to afford to fight our General Election races.

Michael Ackroyd will contest the Newark seat current held by Robert Jenrick in the July 4 ballot and Shila Greatrex-White will vie for Mark Spencer’s Sherwood constituency — with both having been chosen by the Newark and Sherwood Green Party.

The party doesn’t have access to funds from sponsors and donors in the same was as the Conservative or Labour party — and spokesman Dominic Berry said they are relying on people’s generosity so they can offer an alternative choice.

The party has created a crowdfunding appeal with the aim of raising £2,000 to aid the campaign. It will pay for advertising, materials and printing.

£1000 will be to put the two candidates on the ballot and a further £1,000 will be invested on the campaign.

Dominic said: “A lot of people are not exactly happy with the main two parties and they have not done a good job so far.

“Even though we don’t have big backers like other parties, we are a people’s party and we are here for them.

“We are here to hopefully offer an alternative and we aren’t massive but we exist to put pressure on Labour because we are bold as a party and we are here to tell Labour that they can be bold too.”
