Newark pupil donates hair to Little Princess Trust to raise money for Newark Emmaus Trust
A ten-year-old girl has cut her hair to raise money for a homeless charity.
Georgia Griffin of Newark, had her hair cut at KHF Hair in town to donate money to Newark Emmaus Trust.
The raised £155, which exceeded her initial target of £100. She asked the money to be used for craft or cooking activities for the residents and their children as she also enjoys doing it.
“Some people will take their home for granted, but some don’t have one and just really want a roof over their head,” said the charity’s youngest fundraiser.
Nikki Burley, the charity’s chief executive, told Georgia that the money she raised would pay for around ten crafting activities.
When the youngster was seven, she asked for money for her birthday instead of presents and donated it to a national charity for the homeless.
Georgia says that in a few years she would like to volunteer or work with the charity.
She is also sending her hair to the Little Princess Trust, in Herefordshire.
A spokesperson said: “The hair journey is a special one and involves some truly incredible people along the way as well as a wonderful mix of selflessness and skill. They will use the hair to make wigs for children that lose their hair through illness.
“She wanted to help both charities by donating her hair and at the same time raise money, her thoughts are – why waste perfectly good hair if it can help somebody else?”
