Harvest was the theme at this year’s annual art competition at St Nicholas’ Church, Tuxford.

People from across the area entered the competition, which was judged by a professional artist, Liz Hayward of Bothamsall.

In total, there were 27 entries in the painting category and 12 entries in the photography section. All entries were put on display in the church at the weekend. There was also a painting competition for youngsters.

The event has been running for six years.

An organiser, Mr Brian Bland, said: “The standard was very high. It’s an important event in the church calendar, but next year we’d like to get more people to enter.”

He said there was also a mixture of different methods used, such as oils and watercolours.

He said it was a great chance for the new priest-in-charge, the Rev Colin Wall, to get to know the parishioners.

The winner of the painting category was Mr Michael King of Bole, Retford, with Strawberry-Picking — Wheatley. In second place was Mr Karl Rasche of Tuxford with Harvest Mouse.

Mr Brian Gande of Tuxford won the photography competition with Harvest, and in second place was Mrs Christine Kent of Tuxford with Straw and Sunset.

In the seven-11 category, Millie Gabriele (10) won with her painting of Autumn Cart. Jade Rasche (9) came second with her painting, Stook and Vegetables.

Emily Blount (13) won the 12-16 category with her painting, called Hovis.
