Hats off to fundraisers

Big hats and fancy fascinators were worn by guests at a Hats On afternoon tea at Kelham Hall and Country Park.

A total of 78 people took part in the event, organised by Cheryl Day, manager of Newark Live At Home Scheme, and her daughter, Hannah Day, who is in charge at the Southwell scheme.

It was the first time they had organised a joint fundraiser and Cheryl said it had gone so well they would hold another.

"Everyone made a real effort with their outfits," she said. "We even had someone arrive in a vintage car."

The event raised £908, which included donations from local businesses and organisations.

The money will be shared between the schemes, which are run by MHS, a charity founded by Methodist Church members.

The charity aims to combat loneliness and help keep older people healthy and active through activities, outings, befriending visits, and exercise classes.
