Head bids farewell
The head of Lowe’s Wong Junior School, Southwell, has retired today after ten years in the role.
Mrs Sheila Street, 61, said she had enjoyed every moment of her time at the school.
During her last week in the school staff organised treats including lunches and coffee breaks in her office.
On her last day she was given gifts, cards, and a record of achievement containing memories of her time at the school
A special assembly was held with performances and music by the children.
Mrs Street said: “It has been ten wonderful years and I have enjoyed every moment of it but I promised myself I would go while I still felt at the top of my game and that is what I am doing.
“This will open the school up to new ideas and someone will bring new skills and inspiration.”
Mrs Street said Lowe’s Wong was not just a good school but a happy school.
She said: “One of the things we have done since I’ve been here is try to inject some fun into the curriculum experience.
“We have used drama a lot so if children cannot experience first hand they can experience it through drama.
“We’ve tried to enhance learning for all pupils by recognising that people learn in different ways and we try to meet those needs.
Before joining Lowe’s Wong, Mrs Street was head at Gotham Primary School.
Mrs Street said her plans for her retirement included travelling and spending more time with her two-year-old granddaughter.
She said: “If you are bored in your retirement it is your own fault because there is so much out there like new languages to learn, new challenges to take on and new places to visit.”
Mrs Street of Normanton on the Wolds, said she also raised her own animals and grew her own fruit and vegetables and was looking into keeping bees.
The school’s new head will be Mr Mike Follen, head of Sherwood Junior School, Warsop.
