New business The Wellness Shed, Screveton, to combine chiropractor, Pilates studio, and red light therapy under one roof
A chiropractor’s dream has come true, with the opening of his new centre for health and fitness.
The Wellness Shed, the creation of chiropractor Joe Pheasant and his wife, Joanna, the ‘brains of the operation’, from Ravenshead, was officially opened by Mayor of Rushcliffe John Cottee on July 5.
It forms part of the FarmEco Community Care Farm complex, in Screveton, occupying a a former cider barn.
Joe has been helping people to improve their health for more than 15 years, having worked as a sports massage therapist and personal trainer before qualifying with a first-class degree in chiropractic and practising in Nottingham.
His new clinic, JP Chiropractic, has already opened at the centre and has attracted patients from across Nottinghamshire.
Joe, 35, says he is on a mission to spread the word on the power of chiropractic to people of all ages, and break the common misconception that it is only for people suffering from back pain or spinal injuries.
“Imagine going to the dentist for the first time at 40,” he said.
“People clean their teeth every day to maintain good oral health but how often do they get their spine, and most important organ — the nervous system — checked?
“The central nervous system comprises the brain and spinal cord and is responsible for the control and function of every tissue cell and organ in the body.
“Chiropractic helps remove nervous system interference caused by different types of stress, so you can function better and live optimally — and it’s suitable for everyone from babies and pregnant women to elderly people.”
The business is now being extended to offer red-light therapy and classes in reformer Pilates.
Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment which uses low levels of red light to target inflammation, skin conditions, fine lines and wrinkles, joint pain and muscle strain, while reformer Pilates uses resistance to improve balance, strengthen muscles, and improve flexibility.
Joe added: “What we’re trying to embody here is somewhere you can come to receive care, and get fit and healthy, all under one roof.
“With the red light therapy you can think of it as coming in to recharge your batteries… its been shown to be good for hormonal health, sleep, depression.
“The Pilates side is a place people can come to get stronger and healthier. We’ve got four reformer beds, we want to keep it quite personal.”
