Take care on the roads as heavy rain is causing flooding chaos on the A1 and in Newark, Farndon and Hockerton

Flooding is currently causing trouble on the roads in the area today.

The sliproad on the A1 southbound for the Fernwood/Balderton turn-off is currently closed due to flooding, and you are urged to avoid the area.

Nottinghamshire County Council has announced that Chapel Lane in Farndon, Main Road in Hockerton and Ford Lane in Caunton are all closed due to flooding.

The A617 is closed both ways at Hockerton, from Southwell Road to Caunton Road.

Appletongate, between Barnby Gate and Sleaford Road, has been closed due to flooding.

The A616 is also partially blocked due to a bus that has become stuck near Shortwood Lane, between Wellow and Kneesall.

Nottingham Road in Southwell is becoming flooded near the junction with Halloughton Road.

Shire Lane in Claypole is also seeing flood water across the carriageway where the River Witham has risen (pictured).

The Environment Agency has issued four red flood warnings in the Newark area today due to rising river levels at the Torksey river gauge.

The areas most at risk are Girton (including Green and Trent Lanes), Collingham (including Ferry Lane Farm, Westfield Farm and Wharf Bungalow area) and Carlton-on-Trent.

A further flood warning was issued this afternoon in Lowdham as river levels have risen at the Lowdham Grange river gauge, with areas most at risk including Lowdham Main Street, Station Road, Merevale, and Limetree Gardens.
