The removal of William Gladstone’s name from the school title ignores historical facts.
Slavery in this country was abolished in 1803, six years before Gladstone was born, and some 25 years before he became politically active as a student at Oxford.
Gladstone was a dev-oted Christian who throughout his life applied his Christian belief to making many political decisions.
An example of this was the enormously important 1870 Education Act, which he introduced and which first established state primary schools such as the William Gladstone Primary Academy in Newark. — BRIAN CANE, Askham.
