Helping hands
WHEN others had all but given up on a lamb rejected by its mother, former soldier Johno Lee stepped in. Johno was badly injured in an explosion in Afghanistan but, despite his heart stopping twice, medics refused to give up on him.
He applied the same determination to saving the lamb by wrapping it up and sitting in his car with it with the heating turned up.
That is just one of a number of heartwarming stories in this week’s Advertiser.
Also featured are ten-year-old Holly Goddard, who has diabetes, and is helping to organise a summer ball to raise money for research into the condition, and Mick Barker who is in training to be part of a relay team that will swim the English Channel for the same cause.
Frankie Sheard, 14, and Charlotte Lock, 14, who both have heart conditions, have enlisted the help of friends for a car wash to raise money for Heart Link at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester.
Mr Michael Peak, who has Parkinson’s disease, will tackle a series of bike rides for four charities.
Meanwhile, Mrs Sarah Robinson has helped set up Newark Carers’ Group to give carers the chance to get together and share their experiences.
There are many kind-hearted people in our communities who, sometimes despite difficult personal circumstances, are prepared to put themselves out to help others. They all deserve our support.
