Plans to create a community garden in Newark are underway.

Nottinghamshire County Council has appealed for garden lovers and those with a passion for the community to come forward for its latest project at the Church of Promise, off Winthorpe Road.

Rob Bryant, who is part of the communities team at the county council, said: "The project stemmed from listening to the community around this time last year, but then the pandemic put things on hold.

"We really connected with the community and we spoke again in November, which led to the Church of Promise putting forward land for a garden project to be run by the community for the community.

"We want to reach out to residents to see if there are people with the skills and knowledge to make this happen.

"We are putting together a list of people and then we will arrange a meeting to discuss the next steps of the vision.

"We don't want the council to lead on it, we want residents to run the project and have it as their own."

Rob explained covid, and the winter, meant work would most likely begin in Spring.

He said funding for equipment was also needed, and welcomed the support of businesses.
