Reader's letter: Hidden figures

More news, no ads

If readers look at the detail of their recent council tax bill and, in particular, the Nottinghamshire County Council adult social care precept, it indicates an increase of 3%.

But if I compare my 2022-23 figure, £328.45, with last year’s £249.40, the increase is actually nearer 32%.

Previous bills have also hidden the true percentage rise every year and, since it was first introduced in 2016 (£41.36), this component has now increased by 700%.

I have no hesitation in paying it, but I strongly object to the deception.

Queries to the council have just produced the reply: “This is what we’ve been told to do”.

Why is the true percentage increase deliberately being hidden? — J. Broughton, Balderton.
