Nottingham’s historic funfair – Goose Fair is returning to Forest Recreation Grounds by the end of September
A travelling fair with over 700 years of history is returning by the end of the month with plenty of rides, games and entertainment.
Goose Fair will return to Forest Recreation Ground, Nottingham for 10 days from Friday (September 27) until Sunday (October 6).
The free fair is set to have plenty of major rides, returning as some of the public’s favourites, games, attractions and plenty of food stalls and licensed bars.
Initially, the fair was a place for farmers and butchers to sell their animals to other farmers, butchers and cheesemakers.
Various other business owners would set up a stall at the fair to sell their wares alongside the main livestock market.
Thousands of geese would be brought to market to be sold which originated the name – Goose Fair.
It started turning into a fun fair in the early 19th century and developed throughout the years into the big fair it is today.
The opening times to this year’s fair are:
- Friday, September 27 from 4pm to 11pm
- Saturday, September 28 from 12noon to 11pm
- Sunday, September 29 from 12noon to 9pm
- Monday, September 30 from 4pm to 10.30pm
- Tuesday, October 1 from 4pm to 10.30p
- Wednesday, October 2 from 4pm to 10.30pm
- Thursday, October 3 from 4pm to 10.30pm
- Friday, October 4 from 4pm to 11pm
- Saturday, October 5 from 12noon to 11pm
- Sunday, October 6 from 12noon to 9pm
