Hit by egg yobs
A woman hit by an egg thrown from a passing car says she could have lost an eye.
Mrs Lesley Collier of Lowe’s Wong, Southwell, was walking along Westgate in the town at 11.10pm on Saturday when she was struck
She was walking home with her husband, Mr Steven Collier (45) from a friend’s 40th birthday party at the Admiral Rodney. The egg hit her in the eye.
“You wouldn’t think an egg would hurt but it was thrown from a car that was going at about 20mph,” said Mrs Collier.
“They were probably just doing it thinking it was a laugh, not thinking it would cause any damage.”
Mrs Collier said she was terrified because when the egg yolk burst she thought it was blood.
“I could have lost my eye,” she said.
She went to the accident and emergency department at the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, the following day to be treated.
Mrs Collier, a nurse, could not work on Monday or Tuesday.
The assault was reported to the police, who are investigating.
A police spokesman said the egg was thrown from a yellow or green car and they would be viewing security camera footage from the time of the incident as part of their investigations.
Although Mrs Collier said she saw other egg shells on King Street and Westgate on Saturday night, the police said they were investigating the assault as an isolated incident.
