Homebase store on Northgate in Newark closure date confirmed with huge clearance sale as Sainsbury’s site takeover planned

A date for when Newark’s Homebase store will close has been confirmed.

The hardware store, located on Northgate, is set to shut its doors for the final time at 4pm on Sunday, December 8.

Until then, the store will remain open for normal operating hours, but with just three weeks left, all stock is now reduced in a huge clearance sale and everything must go.

Remaining stock includes everything from paint and tools, to lighting, furniture and Christmas decorations.

In August, it was announced that Sainsbury’s would be taking over the site, with plans to convert it into a supermarket.

It came after a major deal was struck to convert 10 Homebase stores nationally — with the food retail giants promising that all Homebase colleagues at risk of redundancy would be offered an interview.

The first of these new supermarkets is expected to open next summer and the conversion of all sites complete by the end of 2025.

This week, Homebase also officially filed for administration following continued financial difficulties, but has now been bought out by retail group CDS, which owns The Range.
