Newark Advertiser reader letters: How many shops will benefit?

I read with interest the Advertiser’s front page about 30 minutes’ free parking in some Newark town centre carparks, since I am one of those who have been calling for free parking for some time.

The 30 minutes should be welcomed but is nowhere near long enough.

In reality, how much shopping can be done in 30 minutes?

How many shops can visitors reach from those carparks, leaving enough time to buy their goods and get back to their cars?

Call me a cynic, but I suspect the only establishment to benefit from this new arrangement is the recently opened McDonalds in London Road carpark. — R. Miller, via email.
