Inquest opened into crossing death

An inquest into the death of a 78-year-old man from Farndon, who died after being struck by a train at level crossing, opened today. (Friday)

Mr Roy Merriman (78) of Marsh Lane, Farndon, was struck by the 8.25am Leeds to London King’s Cross train and died at the scene.

Police and paramedics were called to the crossing on Norwell Lane, Cromwell, at around 9.20am on Sunday.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The inquest at Nottingham Coroner’s Court was opened and adjourned to a later date.
