Inspiring awards
THE trials and tribulations of everyday life can sometimes seem overwhelming, but there are people out there who can help provide inspiration when things get really tough.
The five youngsters honoured in this year’s Children of Courage awards organised by the Rotary Clubs of Newark and Newark Castle all fall into that category.
Ruby Boyd, Neeve Bellringer, Jack Tomlinson, Sophie Sharman and Josh Heath have all experienced difficulties in their lives, but also have something else in common — they have come out smiling.
Each was nominated for an award by their school or college and their selection was testament to their standing among staff and fellow students.
It was an opportunity to recognise what they had achieved in the face of adversity.
At the awards presentation, the president of Newark Castle Rotary Club, Mrs Glen Foreman, said the actions of young people often generated negative publicity.
She said it was, therefore, heartening to be able to celebrate the courage shown by the award winners.
Credit should go to the rotary clubs for ensuring these youngsters’ courage received the recognition it deserved.
It was the second time the clubs had organised the awards for the Newark area, and they are determined to establish them firmly as an annual event.
The awards certainly have a place in Newark’s calendar — there are plenty more inspiring stories to be told.
