Newark Jazz live music night returns to Newark Town Hall, on Friday November 14, with Hammerhead band, featuring musicians from Nottingham, Birmingham, and London
After a successful summer launch, the swinging sounds of jazz will be returning to Newark for another energetic evening of musical entertainment.
On Friday, November 14, Newark Jazz will return to Newark Town Hall, bringing together some of the best musicians that the Nottingham, Birmingham, and London music scenes have to offer.
Newark Jazz is the creation of Andrew Wood and his partner Lara Waldrom, and launched in July to great success, featuring Soho group Koko Collective.
Andrew regularly plays in clubs up and down the country, including as the house drummer at Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham, and wanted to bring that same sound to his hometown of Newark.
“It went really well,” said Andrew. “ We had so many nice comments and people were coming up and asking when the next one was, so it was really positive.
“It turned out to be a really pretty event, and the London band really enjoyed it as well.
“We’re so used to playing in dark and dingy clubs and basements, and this gave them a chance to do something a little bit bougie, and the room had great acoustics.
“We had just over 90 people in, and everyone was up on their feet and dancing.”
Co-event organiser Lara, added: "It was amazing to see so many people come down to the first show, there's clearly a strong appetite for live jazz in Newark.
“We had so much great feedback from the audience and it was great to chat to so many enthusiastic fans on the night.
“We're excited for the November show and hope to make this an established regular event."
This time around, Andrew will be showcasing his own band, Hammerhead, to play music from the golden era of jazz.
It also brings together some of the best musicians in the land, who have worked with the likes of Jules Holland and Alicia Keys.
“It should be a really good one,” he said. “And I’m excited to see if we can recreate the success of the last event.
“No matter your music taste, this show will be groove soaked and melody driven, finely soulful and intense.”
The show will run from 8pm to 10pm on November 14, with doors at 7pm, and tickets can be bought online at: www.eventbrite.com/e/newark-jazz-presents-live-at-the-town-hall-with-hammerhead-tickets-1561727532089?aff=erelexpmlt
Discounted early bird tickets are available for £18, until October 14.
