Joy of reading given to Newark students by Southwell and District Lions Club donation
A Newark school has been given £250 to purchase 46 new books for students.
The money was donated to the Holy Trinity Catholic Academy on Boundary Road by the Southwell and District Lions Club.
Club president Nick Parr and member Peter Brooker visited the school on Thursday to officially present the books to the students.
Nick said: "Peter and I are part of the club's fundraising committee and we have voted, through this committee, to help the school get these books.
"We ask organisations, schools and community groups to come to us. If you need help, we'll try to support you."
The club regularly supports good causes in the area, including Beaumond House in Newark and Marie Curie.
The group also donates money internationally and have recently given a sum to support victims of the war in Ukraine.
"The thing about the lions is that we're not only donating locally, we donate internationally as well because the lions is an international club," said Peter.
"It's lovely, we try to focus on the community because that's where we get the money from. We get the money from our local community and we try to give as much back as possible."
Students Madeline Ward and Chloe Bell said that they liked reading and that they're really happy with the new books.
Madeline said: "I really like them and I'm definitely going to be reading the dog one."
Teaching assistant Andrea Duckmanton said: "They'll be really good to read, and that's another 46 books for our shelves.
"It'll make a big difference so we're really really pleased. The whole school will use them so that's brilliant."
