Keen Balderton motorists keep returning to Pratt and Gelsthorpe for latest car models

A couple who first bought a car from a Newark motor dealer 50 years ago have just taken delivery of their latest model from the same place.

Mr and Mrs Derrick Hough, of Balderton, have been buying cars from Pratt and Gelsthorpe every few years since 1969.

The company celebrates its centenary this year, so the couple have been customers for half its life.

Mr Hough, 81, and Mrs Joyce Hough, 78, have always enjoyed motoring.

They both drive, and like to visit family, go on holiday, and take scenic countryside drives.

“It is our pleasure in life,” Mr Hough said. “That’s how we like to spend our time.”

They have been married for 57 years. The first year they were married, they drove to Land’s End, and the following year they went to John O’Groats.

The couple collected their latest vehicle, a new dark grey Peugeot 208, from Pratt and Gelsthorpe’s Baldertongate showroom earlier this month.

Managing director Mr Richard Gelsthorpe said his father, Mr John Gelsthorpe, sold Mr and Mrs Hough their first Pratt and Gelsthorpe car, and the couple had been returning regularly ever since.

“I cannot think of any other customers who have been coming here anywhere near as long as Mr and Mrs Hough,” he said.

Mr Hough said: “We have always been able to rely on Richard and all the staff who have been here previously.”
