Pregnant woman gets fine cancelled after losing appeal to UKPC after being issued a fine at KFC carpark on Lincoln Road, Newark
A parking fine issued to a pregnant woman, who stopped in a takeaway carpark after taking ill, has been cancelled.
Sally Bloor, was in her first trimester in early May when she was driving into Newark for an appointment.
Suffering from severe sickness and in need of her anti-sickness medication, Sally had to park at the nearest place she could – the KFC carpark on Lincoln Road, Newark.
She was issued a fine of £60 to pay within 35 days otherwise it would increase to £100 for parking at KFC for a total of 15 minutes.
Sally admitted not having noticed the restricted hours sign on the carpark that says restricted hours are Sunday to Thursday, 1am-9.30am, and Friday to Saturday, 3am-9.30am.
The next step if she didn’t pay the fines was to pass her details to a debt collector.
She lost her first appeal to UKPC, which operates the carpark on behalf of the food chain, but didn’t go down without a fight and support across social media.
Yesterday, July 10, she spoke with a manager at KFC Newark who told her that the parking fine had been cancelled.
“She was very kind and helpful,” said Sally.
“Hopefully the more people who stand up to UKPC in the future, the less companies will use them.”
