‘Threads through the Bible’ textile exhibition by artist Jacqui Parkinson to go on show at Southwell Minster this March
A magnificent display of artistry and faith is set to go on show in one of the largest single-artist textile exhibitions ever created.
This spring, Southwell Minster will host ‘Threads Through the Bible’, which features 44 large silk panel textiles and will viewers on a journey through some of the key moments in the bible.
It took ten years for artist Jacqui Parkinson to create the exhibition, which includes more than 25 million stitches.
The Minster will be just one of three places to see the full show this year, alongside Liverpool Cathedral and Ely Cathedral.
From March 7, to May 5, visitors will be able to marvel at the intricately crafted and colourful creations,
Split into three sequences, the display will showcase the story of creation, the life of Jesus, and the final book of revelations.
Artist Jacqui, said: “It’s lovely to be returning to Southwell Minster, where two parts of ‘Threads through the Bible’ were very popular in recent years and added a sparkle to its gentle atmosphere.
“Now, all three parts have come together, and the result will be astonishing — with colour and drama in the beautiful setting of the Minster.”
Glenn Formoy, head of events at Southwell Minster, said: “This will probably be not only the largest textile project by a single artist ever, but also the largest textile project for hundreds of years.
“It will be incredible in its scale and variety and we’re very excited to be able to host this wonderful installation at Southwell Minster.”
‘Threads through the Bible’ will be open to the public from March 7, to May 5, Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, and on Sundays from 12pm to 3pm.
A suggested donation of £5 per person or £10 for families is encouraged to help fund the daily upkeep of the Minster open.
