Lynzay shaved her head in tribute to her late mother

A caring daughter has braved the shave in tribute to her late mother.

Lynzay Ann Parker shaved her head as part of the Macmillan Cancer Support campaign that has so far raised more than £22m.

Lynzay said her mother was the inspiration behind the haircut.

“I lost my mum 12 years ago, and just under four years ago my best friend’s mum died,” said Lynzay.

“I wanted to help people in every way I could, and that’s why I did it.

“I have been through it twice so I know what it’s like to lose somebody close.”

Patricia Parker, Lynzay’s mother, who died after battling small-cell lung cancer in 2007, has been a constant source of inspiration for Lynzay, who donated her chopped hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young adults who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other illnesses.

“I have wanted to do it (shave my hair) for a few years, and I decided to wait to do it on my birthday,” said Lynzay.

“I don’t know how I can put it into words. All I can say is I was over the moon.

“It was a fantastic feeling because I helped two charities out, but it was especially good to know it had helped the young children who might not feel confident without their hair. That was the main reason I donated my hair.

“My mum used to wear wigs as well so I know how important hair can be for confidence and families who are going through the same struggles.”

Lynzay said she had received lots of messages of congratulations since the shave, and she even thinks her new hairstyle looks better than her old one.
