Reader's letter: Latest lockdown no surprise
So, Newark and Sherwood, along with the whole of Nottingham-shire, was put in tier four for coronavirus restrictions. Surprise, surprise.
How many lockdowns — for this was a lockdown in all put name — is it going to take before people start taking this virus seriously?
We are now nearly a year into this thing and I am still seeing people wandering around with masks (or with their masks under their noses, which is just as bad) and not observing any form of social distancing.
What will it take to finally get through to these people?
Aren’t the daily figures released by the government showing the huge rises in cases enough? Or the impact it is having on everyday lives, including mental health?
The latest restrictions must be a massive blow to all those shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés and services that were probably looking forward to getting back on track in 2021 after a disastrous 2020.
These are now facing many more weeks, or possibly months, of further disruption to their livelihoods.
I appreciate that a vaccine is now on its way, but it is going to be months before we all get it.
In the meantime, come on people, play your part and let’s get this awful virus under control. — A. CLOKE, Newark (Full address supplied).
