Southwell Leisure Centre run by Newark and Sherwood District Council and Active4Today is set to have its main pool closed or an indefinite period of time
A leisure centre pool is set to close for an indefinite time for essential repair works.
Southwell Leisure Centre will close its main pool from Sunday, October 29 following a recent building inspection that revealed that essential repairs were required.
The building which is approximately 60 years old, is run by Newark and Sherwood District Council and Active4Today.
There is no opening date, but it is expected that in four weeks time after the pool’s closure, a date can be confirmed.
Southwell town council councillor Roger Blaney said: “I have had an email from the swimming saying that if the pool is closed for more than four weeks, they are going to go elsewhere.
“This is very serious.”
“There is evidence that there is a leak in the pool, they do not know where the leak is and the pool is being closed so that they can find out where the leak is and how serious it is.”
Swimming lessons will continue in the small pool as normal during this time as well.
All customers are able to access public swimming sessions at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre and Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton.
The teaching pool, and all other facilities, at Southwell Leisure Centre will be open as normal.
A spokesman of Active4Today said: “We are really sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to you and understand how disappointing this is.
“You will understand though that we have a responsibility to ensure the safety of the facility and that it is kept in good order.”
