Newark Castle level crossing re-opens after barrier failure and trespassers caused train and traffic delays

A level crossing’s barriers have re-opened after becoming stuck down, causing train and traffic delays.

The barriers at Newark Castle level crossing failed earlier this morning (August 14) and became stuck down, causing severe traffic delays in the area.

The issue was not expected to affect train services, but trespassers then entered the tracks which meant trains were delayed at Newark Castle Station.

Network Rail staff were called to the incident.

East Midlands Railway, which operates the station, has now announced the road has re-opened.
