LEARN MOREThe Newark and Sherwood Liberal Democrats have called for Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry to resign.
A motion was passed unanimously members should add their voices to others calling on Henry to resign her position in the wake of her driving convictions, fine and six month ban.
Branch chairman Dr Philip Barron said: "Ms Henry broke the law on five occasions in a three-month period by speeding in urban areas, in spite of her manifesto pledge to tackle this very problem. She therefore no longer has any credibility in her post and cannot act effectively.
"Ms Henry pleaded the needs of her children with disabilities as mitigation but many other parents have similar child support issues and do not repeatedly break the law. Many children are sadly disabled each year as a result of road traffic accidents involving reckless speeding drivers.
"Her argument is a vain attempt to excuse inexcusable behaviour and we consider there is no reasonable alternative to her stepping down to allow a credible successor to take over."
Caroline Henry declined to comment.
