Newark yoga studio Yoga Squad re-opens for the first time since March lockdown

A Newark yoga studio has re-opened its doors for the first time since March.

When lockdown was called in the spring, Yoga Squad was one of many businesses that took its services online.

For the past six months members have been practising together via Zoom.

But last week they finally met in their beloved studio on Millgate, to practise face to face again.

Studio owner Caroline Martin has worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to deep clean the space, set up social distancing markers and install a carbon dioxide monitor to ensure sufficient air flow is maintained during classes.

Caroline said: “It’s been a challenging few months for the studio, but the community spirit of the members has never faltered.

“I’m so excited to be able to offer them a safe space to practise together in again.

“We have extensive coronavirus safety measures in place and will continue to offer our Zoom classes as well.”

Yoga Squad is based in a renovated 19th Century mill on the banks of River Trent.

The building previously housed the Millgate Museum, which closed in 2012.

It offers a variety of classes including aerial yoga, hot yoga, pilates and barre.

It is open to beginners and experienced yogis.

Classes take place daily, and the venue is also available as a retreat and training centre.

Pauline Kelly has been a member of Yoga Squad for more than a year.

“The time and effort that has been put in to keep the Yoga Squad offering in place has been superb,” she said.

“It has provided light during some uncertain times over the past few months.

“I would encourage anyone who is thinking about trying yoga to explore the classes. I don’t think you would be disappointed. There is something for everyone."
