LIVE: Nottinghamshire County Council 2025 election results
Results of the county council elections are to be revealed today (May 2) after polls closed across the area last night — here are your live updates.
Residents cast their votes yesterday (May 1) to determine who will represent their area on Nottinghamshire County Council.
For electoral areas in Newark and Sherwood, there are 10 seats to be decided, of a total of 66 on the county council.
These are for Balderton, Blidworth, Collingham, Farndon and Trent, Muskham and Farnsfield, Newark East, Newark West, Ollerton, Sherwood Forest, and Southwell.

1.48pm: James Gamble offered his commiserations to Scott Carlton and praised him for his previous work and said he took no pleasure in defeating him.
1.41pm: The final results for the district are in, for the Sherwood Forest division.
The seat has been won by Reform UK’s James Gamble with 1,610 votes.
Scott Carlton, Conservative, lost the seat, coming second with 1,139 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Dave Dobbie, Liberal Democrats: 95
Caroline Ellis, Labour Party: 595
Shelia Greatrex-White, Green Party: 157
The voter turnout in the division was 34.4%
1.27pm: Bruce Laughton took pride in retaining his seat in Muskham and Farnsfield on a day where his party had been losing seats across the county, exclaiming "well done the Conservatives!"
He added: "I want to thank my Conservative team who have worked their socks off to me."
1.23pm: Conservative Bruce Laughton has retained his seat in the Muskham and Farnsfield division, with 1,786 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Shane Andrew Roy Draper, Labour Party: 616
Jacqueline Louise Gozzard, Reform UK: 1,601
Stuart Ross Thompstone, Liberal Democrats: 352
Maureen Tomney, Green Party: 289
The voter turnout for the division was 40.93%
1.21pm: Roger Jackson said: I'd like to thank my fellow candidates for for making democracy work so people could place their vote where they wanted.
"It's nice to represent southwell again, this is my fourth term. I'm looking forward to representing all residents of Southwell, Lowdham and the surrounding villages, no matter who they voted for, going fowarards.”
1.20pm: The Southwell division has been retained by Conservative, Roger Jackson, with 1,768 votes.
In second place is Lee Smith of Reform UK, with 1,139 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Tracey Jevons-Hazzard, Labour: 633.
Steven Patrick Morris, Green Party: 242.
Karen Roberts, Liberal Democrats: 928.
The voter turnout in the division was 43%
13:10pm: Following his election to the Newark West division, Desmond Clarke, said: “Commiserations to Keith [Girling], I know he has been a very hard working councillor for the area.
“I am very much looking forward to representing Newark West and I plan to hold monthly surgeries to make sure the views of residents are heard.
“It’s still a bit unreal, and hopefully I will hit the ground running and will adapt quickly tot he role.”
1.06pm: The Blidworth division seat has been won by Richard Steven Ward, of Reform UK, with 1,122 votes.
Previous councillor Tom Smith, Conservative, lost the seat with 914 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Kirsty Denman, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition: 21
Angie Jackson, Labour Party: 241
Francis Purdue Horan, Independent: 337
Vivien Helen Scorer, Liberal Democrats: 44
Nina Elizabeth Swanwick, Green Party: 76
The voter turnout in the division was 31.8%.
12.54pm: Results are in for the Collingham division.
The seat has been won by Conservative Janette Barlow, with 999 votes, in a close run with Reform UK.
Independent Debbie Darby previously held the seat, but failed to be re-elected with 728 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Darren Malcolm Finch, Reform UK: 983
Bee Newboult, Green Party: 193
Marylyn Rayner, Liberal Democrats: 254
Kevin Treverton Scoles, Labour Party: 268
The voter turnout in the division was 33.77%
12.48pm: Speaking after her re-election to the Farndon and Trent division, Sue Saddington said: “Thank you to everyone who has played their parts in this election.
“I have to say that it was not an easy one. It was one of the toughest I’ve ever been a part of.
“Most of all thank you to the residents who I think I have represented for the 20 years now.
“They have put their trust in me and I will continue to represent them.”
12.43pm: The Farndon and Trent seat has been retained by Conservative Sue Saddington, with 1,199 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Laurence Goff, Labour Party: 398
Caroline Hinds, Reform UK: 840
Declan Patrick Logue, Independent: 194
Keith Melton, Liberal Democrats: 411
Christine Florence Platt, Green Party: 141
The voter turnout was 39.45% in the division.
12.32pm: Sam Smith was visibly emotional after learning that he had won, and received a round of applause.
The current county council leader, said: “I have never campaigned so hard in my life.
“I want to thank the most important people in this election and that is the residents of Newark Town who I am very proud to represent.
“This is probably one of the toughest elections we have faced and I would like to thank my colleagues, some of which will not be returning to the county council through no fault of their own.”
12.29pm: Results are in for the Newark East division.
Conservative Sam Smith, the current leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, has held his seat with 935 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Chris Adams, Liberal Democrats: 91
Daniel Adam Challans, Reform UK: 700
Susan Crosby, Independent: 136
Lisa Geary, Labour Party: 302
Matt Spoors, Green Party: 516
The voter turnout was 33.4% in the division.
12:14pm: Johno Lee said he was relieved to have been elected after a tough campaign.
He said: "I am going to lose some great friends today and it's not looking like a great day for us [Conservatives].
"But well done to all of the candidates for pushing me all of the way, and thank you to my family for their support."
12.10pm: Conservative Johno Lee has retained his seat for the Balderton division with 1,351 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Klaus Becher, Liberal Democrats: 87
Jean Hall, Independent: 412
Martin James Lunn, Green Party: 113
Jane Olson, Labour Party: 264
Brenda White, Reform UK: 740
The voter turnout in the division was 32.96%.
12.05pm: Outgoing Ollerton councillor Mike Pringle said: “It’s just another chapter in politics, I’ve done my upmost for the people of Ollerton.
“The voters decided they wanted a change in party, good luck David.”
12.03pm: The results are in for the Ollerton division:
Reform UK candidate David Clark has won with 1,706 votes.
Mike Pringle, Labour Party, lost the seat with 856 votes.
The other candidates had the following number of votes:
Peter Harris, Liberal Democrats: 136 votes
Marcus Thomas Jones, Conservative: 577 votes
Mike Poyzer, Green Party: 121 votes.
The voter turnout for the division was 34.06%
12.02pm: Upon conceding his seat to Reform, Keith Girling, said: “I’m very disappointed, but people wanted to send a message and they have definitely done that.
“It’s a shame people have been voting on national issues rather than local ones but I believe in democracy and the people ahve spoken.
“I’m very proud of my record on the county council — I was elected in 2005 — and particularly my time as a portfolio holder in the past four years.
But it is the individuals I have helped that gives me the most pride.”
11.57am: The first results are in, for Newark West.
The seat has been won by Reform UK’s Desmond Clarke with 909 votes.
It was previously held by Conservative Keith Girling, who received 756 votes.
The other candidates received the following number of votes:
Rosemary Johnson Sabine, Liberal Democrats: 164
Lucy Olivia Spoors, Green Party: 193
Paul Taylor, Labour Party: 508
The voter turnout for the division was 28.55%
11am: Votes have been verified and the count has begun. Turnout for the Newark and Sherwood divisions in the Nottinghamshire County Council elections was 35.48%. A total of 34,057 votes were cast out of a electorate of 95,950.
