Llamas visited a care home as part of a week of activities for residents.

They were taken into the main sitting room of Southwell Court Care Home.

The llamas, Jose and Santos, owned by Mr and Mrs Bruce Wright of Long Lane, Barnby-in-the-Willows, are house trained.

Miss Mabel Swingler (91) fed Santos.

She said: “He was very gentle. I could hardly feel it when he took the food with his lips.

“They are rather lovely. It would be quite nice if we had them to visit again.”

Activities organiser Mrs Jane Oakley said: “It gives the residents something to talk about and is stimulating for them.”

Other events included a trip to Sherwood Farm Park, a boat trip in the Newark Crusader, letting off helium balloons, an armchair sports day, and an open air church service.

During the sports day residents took part in activities such as an armchair egg and spoon race.

The events were organised as part of the National Association for Providers of Activities for Older People’s annual breath of fresh air challenge that encourages care homes to provide outdoor activities for residents.
