We review Notts Maze’s Labyrinth scare maze in Farnsfield

If being chased around a pitch black maze by a chainsaw-wielding manic and a butcher waving a severed hand is your idea of fun, head to Farnsfield this Halloween!

I took my children to the Notts Maze over the summer holidays and we had a brilliant time, so when owner Aaron Cowley said that the attraction would become a scare maze — the Labryrinth — for Halloween, myself and the Advertiser team Eloise Gilmore, Fionn Burrows, and Marta Tavares knew we had to give it a try.

We went along last night for opening night, and when we were greeted by a terrifying clown who ambushed me as I was coming out of the loo, then snuck up on Marta and Fionn as they got out of their car, I knew we were in for a scary night.

Aaron gave us our activity sheet and told us we needed to find 11 letters scattered throughout the maze to spell out a word, and we’d be given a sweet at the end of we found them all.

Given that it took me and my children two and a half hours to find all the clues back in the summer, in broad daylight and without various monsters scaring the bejesus out of us, we had a feeling it would take a while.

It was just starting to get dark as we headed in and it didn’t take long before we were jump-scared by hacky-sack wearing monster who made us all squeal.

The scare actors were all very impressive and played their parts well, from the butcher lady waving a cleaver to the Robin Hood-esque character who enjoyed collecting body parts with tattoos on them.

The disclaimer states that no-one under the age of 14 would be allowed in and I can see why, the characters were terrifying and even the never-gets-scared Eloise jumped a few times.

Finding all 11 letters proved to be challenging, and we wished we’d have had the map me and the kids had had when we came in the summer.

But overall, it was great fun and those who like their scares this Halloween will really enjoy it.
