Stephen Crane issues letter to Newark MP Robert Jenrick over situation at Lowfields

A man at the centre of the town’s sporting community hopes a letter to Newark MP Robert Jenrick can help save the ‘dire situation’ at Lowfields.

Stephen Crane, of Balderton, has amassed more than 960 virtual signatures and more than 1,000 physical signatures in a bid to save the sports facilities at Lowfields, Balderton, which is at the centre of plans for a housing development.

He met a representative of Balderton Parish Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council over the issue at Castle House on Monday.

He spoke of his love for the sports site following its final event on Sunday — a game between Newark FC’s Sunday League team and Fernwood FC.

“It was a sad day, I had tears in my eyes watching that game,” said Mr Crane.

“Looking at that pictures online after, it very was sad.

“We were all part of the history at Lowfields, and now what?

“We want to keep pushing and we want this to be debated in Parliament — I want to go down that route.

“We want to hear from the housing minister, our MP, Robert Jenrick, because the reaction from the people of Newark has been fantastic.”
