MIS UK motorcycle sales and service centre, Newark, named best in Nottinghamshire

An independent motorcycle sales and service centre run by enthusiasts has been crowned best in county.

MIS UK Ltd, based in Newark, has been named Best Motorcycle Sales and Service Centre in Nottinghamshire for 2025 by SME News.

It is the third year in a row the “small but passionate” team with just three full-time staff has scooped the award, which recognises customer satisfaction and reputation.

MIS UK was founded five years ago by Bob Thomson, a former film industry entrepreneur, who swapped movie cameras for motorcycles.

Bob said: “We are not here to chase big profits. Good job too, because we absolutely don’t.

“We are enthusiasts first and foremost. Making customers happy and keeping them safe on two wheels is what really drives us.”

The workshop has earned a loyal following in the motorcycle community, and offers everything from modern super-bike servicing to classic bike rebuilds.

The team is known for their ‘friendly, straight-talking’ approach and their passion for the bikes they work on.

Workshop manager Carl Cripps leads day-to-day operations and also races competitively for the MIS Motorcycle Race Team in the BMRCC series.

“This is a tough industry with a lot of big players. For a small independent like us to keep winning awards really means a lot. We stay focused on giving our customers the best possible service, whether they’ve been with us for years or it’s their first visit,” said Carl.

Lead mechanic Alex Jones, who trained originally on Mercedes-Benz cars, has been part of the team for the past two years.

He added: “We might be a small team, but we all share the same goal: do the best job we can, take real pride in our work and make sure every bike leaves here safe and sound. Winning this again feels fantastic.”
