Man, 39, arrested following aggravated burglary in the Lincoln Road Bridge area, Newark
A 39-year-old man has been arrested after an elderly woman discovered an intruder in her home Newark.
Officers were called to a report that the woman had come across the man dressed all in black and wearing a face covering at her house in the Lincoln Road Bridge area at around 10.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, July 8).
She hit the offender with her walking sticks but he pushed her over before leaving the property.
A man was arrested nearby following enquiries.
Inspector Steve Wragg said: "It's completely despicable that someone would target an elderly woman in this way and invade her home.
"The victim acted incredibly bravely but will undoubtedly have been left shaken by this incident.
"Officers acted quickly and an arrest was made with an hour of it being reported to us. Detectives are now carrying out their enquiries to establish what happened."
