Man arrested over robberies and thefts from shops in Newark and Southwell




Police investigating a series of robberies and thefts at shops across the Newark and Southwell areas have charged a man.

Jaye Whitten, 35, of Cherry Holt, Newark, was due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court today (November 16).

Detective Sergeant Rick Ellis, who is leading the investigation, said: "Today's charges follow a determined investigation into a series of robberies, thefts and an attempted burglary, all involving shops in the Newark and Southwell areas.

"Nottinghamshire Police takes these types of offences seriously and will always strive to put suspects before the courts."

Whitten has been charged with three robberies, four shop thefts and an attempted burglary. The offences include two robberies at Costcutter in Hawton Road, Newark, on November 5 and 10; a robbery at the One Stop in Bowbridge Road, Newark, on November 5; two shop thefts at Heron Foods, in Jersey Street, Newark, on November 4 and 10; a shop theft at Co-op in Leeway Road, Southwell, on October 13; a shop theft at Co-op, in The Ropewalk, Southwell, on October10; and an attempted burglary at The Veg Stop, in Main Street, Farnsfield, on September 16.
