Newark man to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK with golf challenge at Norwood Park, Southwell
A man will be playing four rounds of gold in a day for charity as ‘you never know what’s around the corner in life’.
Benjamin Walker, of Newark, has set up a JustGiving page with a target of £750 to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.
He will be playing at Norwood Golf Course, Southwell on Friday (August 23), without the aid of a buggy or trolley.
“Some may say this isn’t a lot but I will be walking around 30 miles while hitting a golf ball and carrying 15kg the whole time,” said Ben.
Despite not having been directly affected by prostate cancer, as a man, Benjamin wants to raise awareness for the cancer type that is most common in men.
He added: “I feel that prostate cancer is one of the forgotten types of cancer although it’s the most common in men, killing on average 1 man every 45 mins, it’s not very commonly spoken about.
“So I felt that this would be great to give it some exposure.
“It’s not run in my family or anything I just wanted to do what I can to raise some money as you never know what’s around the corner in life.”
On his JustGiving Page — https://urlis.net/0tnm4ohk — he has set up a target of £750, however, he said he is aiming for £1000.
Ben has done other fundraising events including the Newark Half Marathon for Help For Heroes, he did a 45 of sparring at The Ram, Newark for charity and did big fundraising for Beaumond House which raised over £4000 for the charity.
He added: “I think people should get behind any causes like this as families are affected daily by this horrible disease and I also think if you are capable of challenging yourself then do it for charity and try to make a little difference in this world.
“I’d like the day to have a good turnout of family and friends on the day as I finish my fourth round, I’d really like it to be a good day for all those helping and all the staff at Norwood Park, especially Paul and Kenny, without there help this couldn’t happen.”
