Inspector Heather Sutton, district commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: "Our supermarket workers are playing a key role as they ensure we are able to get food and vital supplies during this difficult time. They are on the frontline and should be treated with the utmost respect.

“We are seeing that the majority of people are being respectful and complying with the regulations around only carrying out essential trips and social distancing but, if anyone threatens a shop worker as they carry out their vital duties, we will take this incredibly seriously and this behaviour will not be tolerated."
