Newark: Man suffers suspected fractured skull after being attacked with hammer in Edwinstowe

A MAN has suffered a suspected fractured skull after being attacked with a hammer.

Officers arrested two men, aged 20 and 26, following the report of a man being attacked with a weapon.

As well as the suspected fractured skull, the victim endured injuries to his ribs and finger.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to help with the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Ricky Ellis, leading the investigation, said: "Thankfully the victim's head injuries were quickly treated at the scene by paramedics.

"He was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre as a precaution, but his injuries aren't believed to be life-altering.

"Officers were at the scene within minutes to arrest two men aged 26 and 20.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw the assault in the High Street, Edwinstowe, at around 8pm last night to come forward with any information.

"I'd urge anyone who witnessed this incident, anyone who may have CCTV footage or any drivers who may have captured dashcam footage to please get in contact with us by calling Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 620 of January 18, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
