The Studio ballet school, Averham, and Nova The Unicorn perform outside Newark Town Hall
Ballet school pupils — and their mascot — showed off their talents with a performance in Newark Market Place.
Crowds gathered outside Newark Town Hall to watch the performance by children, aged six upwards, from The Studio at Averham.
Joining them for the dance show was school mascot Nova the Unicorn.
The performance showed what happens behind closed doors in each level of classical ballet, from exam work, to stand tall next to the ballet barre to show different skills, including technique and terminology to answering questions in French.
“It’s so important for students to learn and understand their own anatomy, so they can fully appreciate how the muscle groups work,” said Christina Phillips-Kelly, a Royal Academy of Dance teacher and principal of The Studio.
“Without the correct training students will never meet their full potential due to lack of knowledge on anatomical awareness.”
After The Studio youngsters performed, teenagers and adults took over the stage.
From pointe shoes and tutu dances, to tap dance to jazz, the public was wowed by the performances of beginners and more advanced students.
“The crowd clapped and cheered throughout, and everyone had a thoroughly good time, even the sun came out to shine on the performance.” said Christina Phillips-Kelly.
