The men have been sentenced following the attempted robbery where the victim was attacked with a claw hammer




Three men have been sentenced following an attempted robbery in Lowdham, where the victim suffered head injuries in a violent attack.

Connor Slaney, 24, of York Street, Netherfield, was charged with conspiracy to rob. He pleaded not guilty, but was found guilty by the jury on Thursday at Nottingham Crown Court and was jailed for seven years.

Aidan Bywater, 18, of Arthur Street, Netherfield, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob on the first day of the trial on Monday, and has been sentenced to two years six months in a young offenders' institute, charged with conspiracy to rob and possession with intent to supply a control drug Class B - cannabis. He had previously pleaded guilty to the drug offence.

Kyle Whitehead, 18, of Gunthorpe Road, Lowdham, pleaded guilty after being charged with conspiracy to rob last year, was given a two year suspended sentence.

All three were sentenced on Friday.

The incident happened on Merevale Close in Lowdham on August 13, 2018, where the three men attempted to rob cannabis from a house.

Their actions were premeditated as they discussed their plan beforehand and around 3pm on that day, they assaulted a man with a claw hammer and he was struck in the chest whilst walking his dogs. The offenders then fled the scene on foot.

The victim suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital.

Nothing was stolen from the address and no entry was gained to the property.

Whitehead and Slaney were charged with one count of attempt robbery on August 14, 2018.

Bywater was identified as being involved and was located and arrested on September 21, 2018.

As part of the investigation, officers seized Bywater's mobile phones and downloaded evidence which showed clear signs of dealing cannabis.

Officers also investigated local CCTV footage which showed the men dressed in dark clothing in the area at the time of the attack.

Detective Constable Andrea Brown who received a judge’s commendation as part of her work towards the investigation said: "I'm really pleased with the result and having spoken to the victim, they are also delighted.

"Nottinghamshire Police take these types of attacks and incident very seriously. It's been a long and complex investigation, but I'd like to thank the victim’s patience and co-operation throughout, as well as colleagues for their hard to ensure the right result."
