Wooden mice inspired by Southwell Minster

Pupils from Lowe’s Wong and Holy Trinity infants' schools have been invited to attend a reading of a new book about the wooden mice in Southwell Minster.

Called The Mice in the Minster, Susan Allen's latest children's book will be launched in the cathedral it is based upon.

Mrs Allen will hold a reading session for the children between 9.30am and noon, on Monday, October 15.

Having already published a book about Southwell and the origins of the Bramley apple, the author said: "I feel a connection to Southwell. It speaks to my soul and inspires me."

After the reading, the children will have the opportunity to carve their own mice out of soap, which will be donated to the Newarks Women's Aid charity.

Minster Education Officer Diana Ives said: “We are thrilled to welcome Susan to the minster to launch her new book.

This builds on a partnership which began a year ago and celebrates the heritage of the minster and the town of Southwell.”
